Violent protests erupted across Nigeria as citizens took to the streets to protest widespread hunger and economic hardship. The demonstrations, initially peaceful, escalated into chaos in several cities.

In Kaduna, protesters set fire to the headquarters of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and looted nearby properties.

In Calabar, hoodlums attacked journalists and stole food palliatives meant for distribution, injuring several reporters in the process

The protests are part of a broader movement against perceived government mismanagement and corruption, with demands for better infrastructure, healthcare, and education. The U.S., U.K., and Canada have issued security alerts to their nationals, warning them to avoid areas where clashes between protesters and security forces are likely

The protests highlight the significant challenges facing Nigeria, from fuel scarcity to rampant corruption and underfunded public services
