When Life Feels Slow: The Silent Season of Becoming

Published on

in

There’s a season nobody talks about, a season where life feels painfully slow.

You wake up. You scroll. You breathe. You try.
But it still feels like you’re not moving. Like everyone else has found their rhythm, except you.

Your friends are posting wins.
Someone got a visa. Another just launched a business.
One is engaged. Another just got a job in tech, and they only learned coding six months ago.

Meanwhile, you’re just… here.
Trying. Applying. Praying. Hoping.
And still wondering, “When will it be my turn?”

Welcome to the silent season, a season of slow growth, of private battles, of unseen progress. A season that’s just as important as the loud ones, but rarely celebrated.

The Truth About the Silent Season

We live in a time where everything is speed-driven.
If you’re not making it fast, it feels like you’re not making it at all.
And that’s the lie many of us have believed: Fast is better. Early is best. Visible is valuable.

But think about it, plants don’t sprout overnight.
Seeds go underground first. They crack, break, and root deep in silence.
And that’s what this season is for you.

You’re building foundations.
You’re healing.
You’re becoming.
Even if it doesn’t show yet.

Just because no one sees it doesn’t mean it’s not working.

Why the Silent Season is Necessary

  1. It Builds Depth
It teaches patience, endurance, and self-trust. It strips away the noise so you can hear your own voice, not just what the world expects.
  2. It Reveals True Intentions
When there’s no applause, would you still write? Still serve? Still show up? The silent season teaches you to do things out of purpose, not performance.
  3. It Strengthens Character
This is where you learn how to manage disappointment, how to wait well, and how to bounce back. These are muscles you’ll need when your spotlight finally comes.

Don’t Rush the Process

Everyone has their own timing.
Just because they’re running doesn’t mean you’re crawling.
You’re just on a different race, and that’s okay.

The guy who made his first million at 23 isn’t better than the one who made it at 33.
The woman who got married at 25 isn’t superior to the one who found herself first at 30.

There is no “late” when you’re walking in purpose.

What to Do While Life Feels Slow

Stay faithful to your routines.
Even the boring ones matter. Wake up. Plan your day. Learn. Reflect. Try again.

Guard your mind.
Social media can make you feel like you’re behind. If it drains you, take a break. Focus on your journey.

Journal your progress.
Write down small wins, even “I didn’t give up today.” That’s a win too.

Surround yourself with grounded people.
Friends who remind you of who you are, even when you forget.

Pray. Meditate. Pause.
Your spirit needs nourishment too, not just your goals.

Dear African Youth,

Your life is not on hold.
You are not delayed.
You are simply being built.

And when your moment comes, because it will you will be grateful for this quiet season. The version of you that’s rising now? They’re stronger. Wiser. And ready to last.

So don’t despise the silent season.
It’s the season of becoming.
