The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced that the appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the new head coach of the Super Eagles has fallen through due to unresolved tax details. Despite reaching an agreement in principle, the deal was scuppered when Labbadia insisted that the NFF cover the full tax amount.
NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau explained that tax details were not part of the initial discussions and that the federation was unable to meet Labbadia’s demands. As a result, Augustine Eguavoen, the NFF technical director, will take temporary charge of the team for the upcoming 2025 Nations Cup qualifiers.
This latest development adds to the instability surrounding the Super Eagles, who have had a string of short-term coaches since the departure of Jose Peseiro earlier this year. Fans are eagerly awaiting a permanent solution to bring stability to the team.
