Ololade Ayelabola, a final-year student at the University of Lagos and a fashion model, has made history by walking an astonishing 130.62 km on the catwalk.
She surpassed her initial target of 120 km, completed within 96 hours, from October 1st (Nigeria’s Independence Day) to October 5th at the University of Lagos Indoor Sports Centre.
This remarkable feat breaks a 41-year-old record held by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114 km (71.1 miles) in Ireland in 1983.
For Ololade, this walk goes beyond breaking a record; it’s a bold statement against stereotypes and a push for inclusivity in the fashion industry. Previously rejected due to her height, she created her own platform for models of all appearances to shine.
Throughout her walk, Ololade modeled various Nigerian designers’ outfits, from casual to traditional attire, receiving overwhelming support from fellow models and University of Lagos students.
