Renowned Nigerian Singer,Onyeka Onwenu Passes on

Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Onyeka Onwenu, has reportedly passed away on Tuesday evening, July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital in Lagos. According to an eyewitness, Onwenu slumped after performing at the birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli and was rushed to the hospital, where she unfortunately did not survive.

Born on January 31, 1952, Onwenu was a talented singer, songwriter, and actress who was affectionately known as “The Elegant Stallion” by the Nigerian press. She was also a dedicated politician and rights activist, having served as chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development in 2013.

Onwenu will be remembered for her iconic songs, including “Wait for Me,” her collaboration with Juju music legend King Sunny Ade. Although there has been no official confirmation from her family, the news of her passing has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and beyond. She will be deeply missed for her contributions to Nigerian music and culture.
