Former international footballer Jerome Boateng has been issued a warning and a suspended fine of €200,000 by a Munich court for alleged bodily harm against his ex-girlfriend. The ruling marks the latest development in a lengthy legal battle that has spanned several years.
The case centers on allegations made by Boateng’s ex-girlfriend, the mother of his 13-year-old twins, during a vacation in the Caribbean in 2018. The ex-girlfriend accused Boateng of physical violence, which he has consistently denied. The presiding judge described the relationship between Boateng and his ex-girlfriend as “toxic.”
This was the third retrial of the case, with the prosecution demanding a fine of €1.12 million. However, the court ultimately decided on a suspended fine of €200,000, which Boateng would only need to pay if he commits another offense.
Boateng’s legal team maintained that the incident was merely a scuffle and argued for a more moderate sentence. The court had previously found Boateng guilty of domestic violence and ordered him to pay fines, but the decision was overturned due to legal errors.
The long-time Bayern defender recently transferred from the Italian club US Salernitana to the Austrian side Linzer ASK. The outcome of this case brings closure to a tumultuous chapter in Boateng’s personal life, allowing him to focus on his football career.
