Over time, many African youth have classified having sex outside marriage as one of the characteristics of adulthood or being in town as a lady or guy. In actuality, the mentality is very wrong. This might be a result of ignorance, trend, or background. Having sex casually has a lot of negative effects on your health, psychologically and emotionally. To be able to conquer this, there is a need for proper education on sex starting from our elementary schools down to tertiary institutions. Some are even victims of rape caused by their ignorance.
Let’s see how casual sex affects people.
Casual sex can impact health, emotions, and psychological well-being differently for everyone.
Physically, it may increase the risk of sexually transmitted infections if proper protection isn’t used.
Not only that but emotionally, it can range from feelings of satisfaction and pleasure to potential regret or guilt, depending on personal values and experiences.
Also, psychologically, it might affect self-esteem, relationship attitudes, and overall mental health, particularly if there’s a disconnect between one’s desires and actions. It’s essential to prioritise communication, safety, and personal well-being in any sexual encounter.
Having sex should be with your partner alone in marriage and not with people.
Sex education is essential for the holistic development and well-being of African Youth. By prioritising comprehensive sex education, African countries can empower their youth to lead healthier, safer, and more fulfilling lives.
Sex education helps to:
· Reduce STI rates and Teen pregnancies: By organising programmes on safe sex practices, youth will be able to make proper decisions about their sexual health and this will lead to a low rate of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and unplanned pregnancies among youth.
· Promotion of Gender Equality: Sex education can help promote gender equality by addressing topics like healthy relationships and reproductive rights. This will encourage mutual respect and understanding between both genders.
· Empowerment: Accurate sex education provides African youth with the knowledge, skill, and confidence they need to make responsible choices about their bodies and relationships.
Sex education in African schools remains a topic of significant importance as it plays a crucial role in shaping the sexual health, behaviour, and well-being of African youth.
