Anthony Joshua’s father is of Irish and Nigerian descent, while his mother is Nigerian. Joshua is of noble rank among the Yoruba people, who are the precise source of his Nigerian ancestry. Ben Ileyemi, his cousin, is a professional boxer as well.

In Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua sent the strongest possible message to the heavyweight class with his devastating second-round knockout victory against Francis Ngannou.

The 34-year-old Joshua knocked out the UFC champion early in the second and during the first round.

A stunned Ngannou stood up, only to be taken aback by a powerful and explosive blow moments later, as the referee stopped the match.

The 37-year-old needed medical attention and seemed to be unconscious before he ever struck the canvas.

Joshua declared, “I’m going back to my cage and when they let me out, I’ll fight again,” with WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury at ringside.

When Ngannou dropped him in October, Fury put up a fierce fight before narrowly winning a points win.

I thought, “I want some of that,” after I saw the battle between Tyson Fury and myself. “This in no way diminishes [Ngannou’s] abilities as a great champion,” declared Joshua.

“I advised him to stick with boxing. He’s fought the best so far in his two battles.”

Joshua, a two-time world champion, wins for the fourth time in 11 months and maintains his dream of winning the world championship again.
