On Tuesday, a bus in Mali overturned and fell off a bridge, killing thirty-one persons.
The bus had drifted off a bridge over the Bagoe river while traveling from the Malian town of Kenieba to the neighboring country of Burkina Faso.
At least ten more people were hurt, several of them gravely.
“The driver’s failure to control the vehicle” was cited by local officials as the most likely cause.
The mishap occurred at approximately 17:00 local time, or 17:00 GMT.
A bus carrying passengers from Kenieba commune to Burkina Faso overturned on a bridge. The transport ministry said in a statement that the driver losing control of the car is most likely the cause.
It further stated that Malians and residents of other West African regions were among the victims.
Mali has a high rate of traffic accidents due to its badly maintained roads, numerous cars, and congested, unregulated public transportation system.
A bus traveling into the capital Bamako collided with a truck earlier this month, resulting in 15 fatalities and 46 injuries, according to the AFP news agency.
